Amplifiers

An electronic device or circuit that converts a small amount of energy into a larger amount by increasing the current, power and voltage of an ac signal source is called amplifier. Three basic properties of Amplifiers are Input impedance, Output impedance and Gain. The inside of an amplifier contains a mass of wires and circuitry components.

The core component of an amplifier is transistor and the main elements in a transistor are semiconductors.

Most amplifiers can be classified based on their function and frequency response. Voltage and Power amplifiers are based on the function and they amplify voltage and power respectively. Amplifiers based on frequency response are audio, rf and video amplifiers. Amplifiers find applications in wireless communications, in audio equipment of all kinds, broadcasting etc. Different types of amplifiers are used widely in electronic equipments as radio and television receivers, computers, high-fidelity audio equipment etc.

Game consoles

Game consoles are electronic devices used exclusively for playing games on a personal computer/television or on coin operated machines that are installed in public business places. They control the video display signal of a television or monitor to display a game. Players can interact with the game via controllers like joysticks or game pads. Audio and video are received separately. Some Game Consoles are Nintendo GameCube, Microsoft Xbox, Sony Playstation etc. They are a very popular form of entertainment.

Generally the game consoles contain the following elements. (1) Video controllers that allow for information input and interaction (2) Game media that contain the game consoles programs (3) Power supply to convert AC to DC at required voltages (4) Console or core unit that is a hub into which display device, controllers and game media connect.

Game Consoles that are light weight and portable and used for the same purpose are called as hand held game consoles. In these, the controls, screen and speakers are all part of a single unit, unlike the ordinary game consoles.

Affordable retirement communities

Affordable retirement communities are neighbourhoods with housing for retirees or senior citizens, at affordable prices. These are aimed at promoting independence, reduce social isolation and maintain health status and quality of life. They can be broadly classified into 3 types Active, Supportive and Continuing care. While active communities provide purely residential facilities with no long term healthcare facilities, supportive communities provide facilities like assisted living and the third type is a combination of both. Basic facilities available include shelter, catering, medical care, recreation, domestic support, communal, leisure activities, security etc allowing occupants to spend time on their hobbies and things they were to busy for in their working years.

These affordable retirement communities were started to enable the aged to have their independence by providing them with choice and accessibility. While looking for such places the following points should be considered year round climate, nearby attraction places to tour around, special needs like dietary food, nursing care for ailments, affordable prices etc. Before selecting any particular community one can narrow down choices and personally visit and review the places to ensure amenities suit their needs.
