Amplifiers - For different purposes
Amplifiers are the devices that are used to strengthen the weak radio signals that pass through long distances. The ratio of the input signal strength to that of the output signal strength is called as the gain of the amplifier. Amplifier should be able to operate over large frequencies and must be free from distortion.
Amplifiers contain amplifying devices such as a transistor, field effect transistor, two input terminals and two output terminals. The difference between the input and output signals is called the gain of the amplifier. The different kinds of amplifier gain are current gain (Ai), power gain (Ap) and voltage gain (Av).
Amplifiers can be largely divided into two categories such as small signal amplifiers and large signal amplifiers. Small signal amplifiers amplify signals of few microvolts from sensors. Large signal amplifiers amplify large input signals or high current loads. Power amplifiers are sometimes referred to as voltage amplifiers. Power amplifiers work on the principle of converting DC power from the power supply into AC power that is delivered to the load. An amplifier may be used to drive a motor or may be used in a loudspeaker.
Amplifiers are used for different purposes and it is essential to know about its application. If you are planning to get an amplifier for your guitar, then you must select it according to the kind of music you would play. Amplifiers are available according to the type of instrument like the guitar or bass guitars. Amplifier’s size, sound quality and wattage need to be considered when you are getting the product. The other types of amplifiers are audio/ stereo amplifiers, mobile phone amplifiers, car amplifiers and tube amplifiers. You can go for the specific type according to the requirement.
