It is used to open and close a file or a program, to move between the files, to choose a particular program, to navigate between menus, to draw images and so on. In general, a mouse is a pointer used as reference to select a program. Many types of Computer mouse are available in the market with latest features and different models. Scrolling mouse, optical mouse, laser mouse and mechanical mouse are some of the types of mouse that are currently available. Some of the rare types of mouse available are foot mouse, cordless mouse and intelli-mouse. But the types of mouse that are generally used are the scroll mouse, optical mouse and laser mouse.

There are 2 keys presented in the mouse and a scroll is available in the centre of the mouse. These 3 keys are used in the mouse to use the computer programs. The mouse contains 3 types of connectivity namely PS/2 Connector and an USB Connector. Earlier in the computers the Serial Connector was used, which is now rare to find these kinds of mouse. The optical mouse is a type of mouse which is used mostly nowadays. An optoelectronic sensor is used to perform the optical mouse, where the balls are used in mechanical mouse.

The advanced type of mouse is the Laser mouse, which works with laser technology. The advantages in the laser mouse are it has high tracking power and consumes less energy when compared with the other two types of mouse.
