All about Memory Cards

Memory card is a medium used for storing the information in file format. They are generally used in the electronic devices for enhancing the storage capacity of the device. Mostly they are used in mobile phones, digital camera and laptop, which requires more storage space as the in-built storage capacity is limited. Data files like music, information, videos, games or anything can be stored in the device.

The memory cards are known as flash memory cards. They can be classified as the SD memory cards which are known as secure digital memory cards, multimedia cards, flash memory cards, smart cards, memory stick and XD picture cards which are used to store images retaining the quality of the pictures. These are the most commonly used memory card types. These memory cards have the flexibility to use it more than one device, assuring a secure storage of the data.

Some of the other types of memory cards are PC card, Compact flash I and II memory card, Multimedia card, MMC micro card, SxS, Universal flash storage, intelligent stick, Serial flash module and NT card. They are also used in the video game consoles as proprietary solid state memory cards. Memory cards helps to store more number of data you need in any portable device that suits it. Memory stick Pro is a new advanced version of memory stick has been introduced in the market, mainly to use in the digital cameras.

The storage capacity of the memory card is determined by the size of the file that is stored. When the images are stored in a camera memory card, if the pixels of the picture is high the storage space will also reduce, so the smaller the size of the file, the higher the storage capacity of the memory card. So, before you buy a memory card, pre-determine the size of the memory slot available in the device that you are going to use. They are available in market from various brands at affordable rates. The higher the storage capacity of the memory cards the higher its price.
