DAB Radio - The New Age Rage

The Digital Audio Broadcasting radios are the new age radios and quite a rage especially among the youngsters. The high definition audio streaming with a range of channels in the same spectrum is the reason for its popularity. There are 12 alarm settings and one can wake up not with alarm and anxiety but with joy listening to one’s favourite channel. The snooze option can be used by simply extending the alarm option.  The RDS displays the name of the station news, scrolling etc.

Apart from the many radio channels one can listen to the MP3 songs and the WMA files with the help of the SD memory cards. The rewind and pause functions are available for the convenience of the listener. The stereo playback assures us great listening experience for the ipod, FM CDs and the MP3. Both the readable and rewritable CDs can be used. Some have 3 embedded speakers for additional audio effect.

The unit is small and sleek and while some brands boast the traditional transistor radio look, others are found with a piano black finish and a back lit display in blue. The display can be dimmed if one wishes to.  For a spectacular range of colours there are the titanium silver, satin black, snow white, the reds, pinks and pastel shades of green, cream, aqua and blue to choose from. The radio can run on battery power or the mains. The 4AA batteries can used or alternately the AC adaptor which that draws power from the mains.

The most remarkable feature is its portability. It can be carried minus all the irksome cords which need to be disentangled every now and then. The headphones are useful if one wishes to listen alone even in a crowd.  The splash proof material makes it water proof. A few rain drops will not hurt it in any way. Other features are the auto tuning, auto time set, rotary tuning, volume controls and LCD display.

The radio stations can be scanned automatically and no manual setting of frequencies is required. The DAB radio delivers clear sound without interference from other signals.   About 32 characters can be displayed at a time in two lines giving information about the channel one is listening to. The time can be set to match the winter or summer time clock. The infra red remote handset is a handy addition.

There is a facility where files can be converted from MP3 to Pico + files. In order to update files from the PC for software updating, a USM connector has been provided. For the seasoned traveller, there is a provision to install it in the car with the help of in-car power cord.
