You may become tired of working on a computer for long hours. But working before a computer screen that is wide, attractive and comfortable would in fact increase your work efficiency. Various computer monitors are now available in the market in various sizes and types. Computer monitors are designed with various factors such as contrast ratio, dot pitch, response time, resolution, image brightness, interface, colour support, viewing angle, connectivity and various other features.

Computer monitors are available in two main types. First type is the CRT screen and the second type is the LCD screen. CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) screen are the old fashioned models but with a good technology, cheap rate and good performance. LCD (Liquid Crystal display) screens are flat panel monitors that take very less desk top space. These types of machines are more energy efficient and look modern. Images are created on the screen with the pixels hitting with the number of electrons. Bright images are produced on the screen when the electrons make the pixel glow at high intensities.

LCD monitors comes with the liquid crystal solution between the two polarized panes of glass that are portioned. Image is formed on the screen when the light is altered by the electric voltage that is passed through the solution.   LCD monitors are designed with good response rate. Response rate refers to the time taken by the monitor to respond to a given input. A computer monitor that comes with a response rate of 12 to 16ms is considered to be better. Few flat panel monitors come with Super Video Graphics Array (SVGA) high resolution displays.  Dead pixel is a factor in the case of a LCD monitor. If there is a dead pixel then you can find a black spot on the screen. It may appear anywhere on the screen. Some monitors come with zero dead pixels. Care should be taken to buy such monitors that are comfortable to work on with, be it a CRT screen or a LCD or TFT (Thin Film Transistors/ Technology) screen.
